“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
[John 1:5]
I watched the movie “Gravity” and during its duration I couldn’t help but acknowledge the vast darkness in outer space. Even the term itself, outer space, signifies distance, depth and limitlessness.
I wonder if that’s how God saw Earth before Jesus came into the world as sin’s prescription.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5
Jesus, our perfect Sacrifice, is the Light who left heaven to come into a sin-filled, dark and fallen world for people like you and me, for women like you and me. I can hardly stand it, when I let the weight of that sink in. Jesus came into the dark world of young girls who smile through painful memories of molestation. Jesus came to illuminate the life of the woman who doesn’t submit to her husband and hangs on to anger. Jesus came to light up the world of the prostitute who roams streets at night looking for an escape. Jesus came to shine in the world of the woman who cries alone in her cubicle. Jesus came to be luminous in all of our darkest places. The places we don’t like to talk about let alone think about. Yes, we all have experienced some form of darkness and yet, John says, “in Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind”.
Jesus’ mission on Earth was to unbind what was bound by the devil. That’s why He said:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 4:18-19
By coming into the world, Jesus also came into the world of women everywhere. The woman at the well, the womb of a virgin, the home of a homemaker named Mary. Jesus walked into the world of countless women then and He continues to do so now. His goal, it still remains. He wants to shine among the darkness. Ladies, He wants to shine among your darkness.
Don’t believe the hype of the world; we don’t receive our shine from what we do, how much we make, who we marry, or where we live. We shine because He shines within us!
Nothing can overpower what God will do in your life through Christ Jesus. Nothing! No form of darkness brought to you can overpower the Light of Jesus Christ. Remember that your illumination is because Jesus is the light of the world and may He always be the Light in YOUR world.
